8/21/2022 12:52 pm

Green Lake Families:

We are almost to the start of the 2022-2023 school year. We are excited to welcome students back to Green Lake Elementary and to meet our new families. We also look forward to more opportunities to connect in person as a school community this upcoming school year. We know you will find Green Lake Elementary to be a welcoming, caring and supportive community.

Please see below for information regarding start-of-school. There is A LOT, and we will continue to send reminders. I look forward to our partnership this year. Please reach out with any questions or just to say hello.

Here’s to a great 2022-2023 school year. Go Dragons!

In Partnership,

Amy Klainer, Principal

First Day Of School

The first day of school for Grades 1-5 is Wednesday, September 7. We will NOT have early dismissal on this day.

The first day of school for Preschool and Kindergarten is Monday, September 12. Preschool and Kindergarten teachers will host family connection conferences September 7-9. Your student’s teacher will reach out to you directly to schedule.

Our school hours are:

7:55 am – 2:25 pm          Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

7:55 am – 1:10 pm          Wednesday

Class Assignments

Class assignments will be shared with families on Thursday, September 1, at 3:00 pm. You will receive an email from your student’s teacher. Our staff have taken great care in creating balanced classrooms with the input shared by families this past spring. As a result, we are not able to take family requests for specific teacher assignments. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support of our process.z

Opportunities for New Families to Visit Green Lake

We invite new families in Grades 1-5 to visit Green Lake Elementary on Tuesday, September 6, at 2:00 to learn more about our school community.

School Supplies

This year Green Lake Elementary has ordered the supplies that students will need for school. We are asking families who are able to pay a $25 donation for school supplies through SchoolPay. Extra donations are appreciated. We do not want the fee to present a hardship. We ask that families only donate what you are able as the school will provide supplies for all students regardless.

You will need to set up a Source account if you haven’t already. The Source will also be the account where you will see your student’s progress reports throughout the SPS career. Information on how to set up and login to the Source is available here.

We ask that families provide a backpack and water bottle for your student(s). The school will have extra on hand if needed.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Students will line up on the playground before school.

Grades K, 1, and 2: Please use the playground entrance on 1st Avenue with the cul-de-sac to enter.

Grades 3, 4, and 5:  Please use the playground entrance on Sunnyside.

There will be signs for each teacher and staff assisting students the first week of school. We will not have a morning recess before school. Students may begin arriving at 7:40 to line up but closer to 7:50 is preferred. Students who will be receiving breakfast will be able to enter the cafeteria at 7:40.

Teachers will bring students back to the same line up location on the playground for dismissal. We ask that families use the same locations to wait for dismissal.

Grades K, 1, and 2: Please wait outside the playground entrance on 1st Avenue with the cul-de-sac for your student.

Grades 3, 4, and 5:  Please wait outside the playground entrance on Sunnyside for your student.

If you have students across multiple grade levels, we will have the older students arrive and dismiss in the same location as the younger sibling(s).

We will have yellow bus transportation this school year that will be loading and unloading on Sunnyside. You may find parking and walking up easiest. If you choose to drop off by car, please be mindful of student safety and traffic congestion.

Please know that the first few days may take time, especially at dismissal. Safety is our main priority. We will continue to monitor this process and adjust if needed and appropriate.

We are awaiting the final installation of railings on our new playground. Once these are installed the playground will be open to the community after school and on weekends. Stay tuned!

Transportation

Students who qualify for transportation will receive an email from Seattle Public Schools with your student’s bus stop and route information starting August 22. If you need assistance updating your address or checking eligibility for transportation, please contact the Transportation Department at 206-252-0900 or through Let's Talk

School Breakfast and Lunch

School breakfast and lunch is no longer free for all of our students. Families can load money into an account on  PayPams, www.paypams.com. Families can also apply for free/reduced lunch through this application. Information on income levels that qualify for free or reduced lunch can be found here. If you think your student may qualify we ask that you complete the application as it also supports school funding.

Covid Health Guidelines

Currently, the guidelines have not changed since last spring. Masks are optional for students and staff. If students have Covid symptoms, they will go to the health room and will need to be picked up. We will still have the ability to do rapid tests and PCRs at the school. When individuals are positive for Covid, there is still an isolation period of 5 days.
