Sign up to attend with us: “Touch of Chinatown” Neighborhood Walking Tour

Description

The PTA Social Justice & Equity Committee is hosting an optional weekend family field trip on Saturday, January 22 at 10:30 am. Come learn more about Asian communities in our city, while getting to know other GLES families!

We have 30 spots available for GLES students and caregivers to attend the tour. This outdoor, 90- to 110-minute walking tour of the Chinatown-International District is recommended for elementary level students, focusing on the relationship between the district’s communities and their environments, both historically and today.

Please note we would like to prioritize GLES students (as opposed to other siblings and multiple parents per student). Other notes:

  • As of now, this is free; the cost is covered by the PTA. If the tour fills up quickly and there is additional demand, we’ll consider adding another time slot and asking for family donations to help defray the cost.
  • Once we have an RSVP list, we’ll contact attendees about potential windows-open, masked carpooling.
  • If you can’t make it this time, the SJE committee looks forward to offering additional outdoor weekend family field trips in 2022. We’re currently considering spring opportunities with the African-American Museum and the Holocaust Center for Humanity.
